Support for local homelessness charities

8th Dec 2021
With Christmas time approaching, Ascot Racecourse Supports have recently made a £1,000 donation to the three most local homeless charities to the racecourse as part of our annual support.  Below is a snapshot of who they are and how our support will help:

Windsor Homeless Project

A large part of any money donated goes towards the ongoing running cost to keep their doors open which includes staffing costs, rent and supplies. Other money is used to provide counselling, furniture, mobile phones, training courses, ID etc. As an example, £50 will provide a hot lunch for 20 guests; £100 will provide 3 x counselling sessions and £15 for mobile phone credit.  The charity are also moving into new permanent premises next year, so some monies will allocated towards new carpeting.

Pilgrim’s Hearts Trust - Bracknell

This charity run a twice weekly “drop-in” facility for the homeless and those needing support.  They provide hot drinks, a meal and food to take away for later, access to a doctor and have clothes and shoes available. Underwear and socks are only supplied new. All the other agencies, council staff come down and attend to meet up with the guests and together they try to meet their needs.  Due to Public Health preventing the night shelters from running, they are now seeking to get accommodation of their own.  The extra costs of PPE and cleaning products has been a new expense and they have also set up a free 0800 help and advice line for those in need.

Slough Homeless Our Concern (SHOC)

Part of our donation will go towards making the festive period as happy for guests as they possibly can.  They will be opening on both Christmas Day and Boxing Day and all will receive presents to open.  Staff We will be cooking and serving a traditional roast turkey dinner with all the trimmings following by Christmas pudding and cream!  Monies will also be used to purchase items that are always much needed and in short supply such as boxer shorts, pants, gloves and hats.
