BetMGM extends sponsorship backing at Ascot Racecourse

17th Jul 2024
Ascot Racecourse is delighted to announce that BetMGM will sponsor the Autumn Racing Weekend and extend its sponsorship of the Clarence House Chase Raceday in multi-year deals.

This multiple raceday sponsorship, and multi-year commitment to racing at Ascot, reaffirms their position as a bookmaker looking to support the best of British racing across both the Flat and National Hunt codes.

At the BetMGM Autumn Racing Weekend, BetMGM will sponsor three races on each day including the feature races on both days, the Listed BetMGM Noel Murless Stakes on Friday, and the BetMGM Challenge Cup Heritage Handicap, the most valuable sevenfurlong handicap in the country, on Saturday.

On the BetMGM Clarence House Chase Raceday, BetMGM will sponsor six races, including the feature race, the Grade 1 BetMGM Clarence House Chase, won by steeplechasing legends such as Shishkin, Un De Sceaux and Altior in recent years. BetMGM will also sponsor the Grade 2 BetMGM Mares’ Hurdle (Registered as The Warfield), won by the likes of Molly Ollys Wishes, Vroum Vroum Mag and Magic Of Light in the last decade.

BetMGM UK is a premium online betting and gaming brand, operated by LeoVegas Group, a wholly owned subsidiary of the global entertainment company MGM Resorts International.

Their sponsorship portfolio in British racing includes the All-Weather Championships, the County Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival, and the growing relationship with Ascot, continuing their ambitious expansion plans for the UK in 2024 and beyond.

Sam Behar, UK director of BetMGM, said: “We are thrilled to support Ascot racecourse by sponsoring two major events in their racing calendar. Both racedays enhance our blossoming portfolio of horse racing sponsorships and further showcase our commitment to the long-term growth of the sport in this country.

“The BetMGM Challenge Cup Heritage Handicap is the most valuable seven-furlong handicap run in Britain so it’s fantastic to be the headline sponsor, while you just have to look at the calibre of past winners of the BetMGM Clarence House Chase to see the regard the two-mile contest is held in.”

Felicity Barnard, Commercial Director and Deputy CEO at Ascot Racecourse, said: “We are delighted that BetMGM has chosen to extend their raceday sponsorship at Ascot, both with their ongoing support for the BetMGM Clarence House Chase Raceday and with their new sponsorship of the BetMGM Autumn Racing Weekend. We’re pleased to continue growing the relationship and look forward to promoting these events with BetMGM in the months ahead.”

ABOUT ASCOT AND ROYAL ASCOT

Ascot Racecourse was founded in 1711 by Queen Anne, who identified the land as being ideal for horseracing when riding out from Windsor Castle. The first four day meeting at Ascot took place in 1768 and at some point in time, the race programme started being referred to as Royal Ascot.

The two tracks, Flat and Jumps, now provide racing all year round and Ascot hosts 26 days of racing each year, including the five days of Royal Ascot. It is Europe’s premier Flat racing meeting, featuring eight Group 1 races and 19 Group races in total. Typically, 300,000 racegoers attend across the five days while the event is broadcast in more than 200 territories with a reach of 650 million households.

As well as world-class racing, Ascot Racecourse is also used as a film and TV filming location and as a venue for conferences, banquets, exhibitions, product launches and weddings, with 300 non-racing events annually. The land on which Ascot Racecourse sits is leased from the Crown Estate, adjacent to Windsor Great Park, covering 179 acres.
